Just recently Suffolk County had enacted fee increases for park amenities, the fee effected just about everyone included our veterans. However that could change, thanks due in part to the Suffolk County Thanks Our Disabled Veterans Act.
Legislator Kara Hahn has requested legislators to repeal the fees for disabled veterans. Her request was received with an unanimous vote in favor.
“I think it’s incredibly important that folks have a place to go that’s a respite, that’s a reprieve from the stresses of their everyday life and our parks are beautiful resources and really offer that kind of place of solace and peace,” Hahn told WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall.
Under the act, fees for electric hook up use and camping charges will be completely waived for any disabled veteran.
The bill is now waiting for County Executive Steve Bellone, but is expected to pass.
