In 2013, Suffolk County finalized the complete purchase of 314 acres in Northville to create one of the counties newest “premier” parks. The park, which sits on Sound Avenue, was supposed to include at least 100 campsites, a possible equestrian center, a clubhouse, courts for volleyball, tennis and basketball, a camp store and the only seasonal cabins on parkland anywhere on Long Island. The parks concept was announced a little over a year ago on September 17, 2015.
Today the park just sits there. Not really used, has a vibrant trail system that is not clearly marked or mapped out, and has several spots where hunters can go. There’s no parking lots for residents to park at, and the tennis ball courts are in disrepair, and the only visible building is vacant but a barking dog that is most likely from the parks caretaker.
So what happen to the park? The promise was there, the concept was created.
From what we gathered, the committee that was formed for this park was to make their recommendations to the county by the end of this year.
Hopefully this large gem of land gets some sort of use as well as preservation.

PROVIDE A RESOURCE TO FIND THE PERFECT PARK. IN ADDITION to providing a resource for Long Islanders to find the perfect park to visit, we strongly believe that you should also know the history or background of that park. We also strongly believe that everyone should have a part in keeping Long Island natural and beautiful. (We are also 100% positive the world would be a better place if everyone would take a stroll in a park.)
